How to Find Copyright Free Images So You Don’t Get Sued

How to find copyright free images? This matters greatly to any blogger and anyone who posts images on Social Media sites.

We’ve all done it – hurriedly and excitedly grabbed an image from Google to use in a blog post, a Facebook meme or a sales page. It’s so easy and there’s so many great images available on the internet.

Plus, it seems everyone else is doing it, so what’s the big deal? Why should you be so very careful with the images you use? Here’s why! You could be sued for using a copyrighted image.

That quick download of an image could end up costing you big money in a lawsuit.

Roni Loren experienced this firsthand when she was sued for an image she used in a blog post.

Recently an avid internet marketer was sued for the image he grabbed from the internet.

Roni Loren explains It DOESN’T MATTER…

  • if you link back to the source and list the photographer’s name
  • if the picture is not full-sized (only thumbnail size is okay)
  • if you did it innocently
  • if your site is non-commercial and you made no money from the use of the photo
  • if you didn’t claim the photo was yours
  • if you’ve added commentary in addition to having the pic in the post
  • if the picture is embedded and not saved on your server
  • if you have a disclaimer on your site.
  • if you immediately take down a pic if someone sends you a DMCA notice (you do have to take it down, but it doesn’t absolve you.)

1. Use your own pics.

With the ease and technology that smart phones have provided, you have the means to stay safe by using your own pics.

2. Subscribe to an image service.

The costs for subscriptions like Shutterfly varies but it can get pretty pricey if you use a lot of images.

3. Use copyright free images.

Ever since I read the first horror story of a blogger being sued for using a copyrighted image, I always refrain from just grabbing any image from Google. The great news is that I’ve always been able to find exactly what I needed when my own pics just didn’t suit the intent of my blog post or Facebook meme. This is where I find copyright free images. *** My first go-to source for images is Pixabay.com. Pixabay is a vibrant community of creatives, sharing copyright free images and videos. All contents are released under Creative Commons CC0, which makes them safe to use without asking for permission or giving credit to the artist – even for commercial purposes. Set up a free account and begin using this amazing service. *** My second source is actually Google images! But it’s more involved. I do an advanced search to find images that are copy-right free and available to use and modify, even commercially. Here’s how to find copyright free images  on Google

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”3.0.47″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”3.0.80″][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”3.0.47″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.0.80″ text_font_size=”16px”] 1. Do a Google search for your subject, then click on “Images.” In this example, I searched for mountains images. Look at that – 27 million images! I hit the mother lode! But before I use any of these images, I narrow down the search to find copyright free images. Next … [/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”3.0.47″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_image src=”https://nakedhippiesroadtrip.us/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/image_search.png” _builder_version=”3.0.80″ use_border_color=”on” border_color=”#0c71c3″ url_new_window=”on” alt=”How to find copyright free images is possible, even with Google images” url=”http://trishahippie.com”][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”3.0.80″][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”3.0.47″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.0.80″ text_font_size=”16px”] 2. These two resources have provided endless photos quickly and easily, saving me loads of time. I truly cringe when I think of how many people do not realize the jeopardy they may be facing if they don’t use copyright free images. If you’ve been partaking of the plethora of Google images without a second thought of copyright, I hope my warning and suggestions help you protect yourself. How to stand out so others will find you on the internet ... you're competing with millions!

How to Stand Out Among Billions on the Internet

Stand out among billions on the internet or you’ll stand in the shadows of those who do …

If you don’t stand out, you’ll wring your hands, beat your head against the wall, cry out to the gods of cyberspace and probably start to think of throwing in the towel.

via GIPHY

HOLD ON!  Before you scream “It’s no use,” read on for some tips on standing out on the internet.

Just so you know, as of just a few minutes ago, there were nearly 3 million blog posts written today, over 154 billion emails sent, and over 648 million tweets.  And the day ain’t over yet!
[source: http://www.internetlivestats.com/]

Click the pic to see the “real time” numbers

As the number of internet users it is more evident than ever that you stand out as a blogger, as a marketer among the billions on the internet – but how?

HOW TO STAND OUT ON THE INTERNET LIKE THE NAKED HIPPIES’ PICKUP CAMPER PARKED IN THE MIDST OF CLASS A RVS

1.  BE YOU – the #1 thing you can do

You're among MILLIONS of bloggers, Facebook users, Tweeters on the internet ... how do you stand out?
It’s really, really, really okay to be YOU!

There is no one else like you. No one else has your style, your voice, your personality and yes, even your quirks.

But, that’s exactly what attracts followers.  You just have to be as real as it gets. Be the good, the bad and the ugly. It’s all allowed and adored because everyone is sick and tired of the hype and false pretensions on the internet (and everywhere else in life, too.)

People have a keen sense of smell … they can smell the stink of fake or the fragrance of genuineness.

Nobody can DO YOU like you do you!  There’s a ton of people copying other styles, trying to “fit in,” attempting to be something they truly aren’t.  You just do you and leave the mask off.

2. BE CONSISTENT

It doesn’t matter whether you blog every day, three times a week or even once a week. What matters is that you are CONSISTENT.

Consistently showing up is one key to standing out on the internet among the billions.
Every day matters. Be there!

On social media platforms, it’s a daily requirement – at least once a day, but even better to have a presence several times a day for this reason … your social media posts have a short shelf life:

TWITTER: The median lifespan of a tweet is 18 minutes.

FACEBOOK: 75% of the engagement you get on your posts happens within the first 5 hours. After that, engagement pretty much dies off. [more statistics here]

INSTAGRAM: Your photo on Instagram may only get seen once, so make it a good one. [source]

PINTEREST:  Your Pinterest pins are on Pinterest forever.  However they are only going to show up in your followers’ streams when you initially pin them. [source]

3. USE IMAGES

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and it’s been proven to be the most engaging, the most valuable element of your social media marketing and on your blog.

Using great images increases your chance of standing out on the internet.
Find some fun pics like this on Pixabay!

Research from Skyword found that if your content includes compelling images, you can average 94 percent more views than your boring counterparts. [source]

Word of warning though:  use only your own personal pictures or images that you have permission to use without worry of copyright infringement.  The last thing you need is a lawsuit for grabbing an image from Google or Pinterest or someone’s blog, thinking because it’s on the web, it’s okay to use it.  WRONG.

A great source for copyright-free images is Pixabay.  The search function gives you tons of images to choose from, and they are available in different sizes to suit your needs.

4. TITLES  AND FIRST LINES

A great title and the first few words of your social media post have to GRAB the attention of the reader. If it doesn’t, they will click off or scroll away from what you are sharing.

On the average, five times as many people read the headline as read the body copy. When you have written your headline, you have spent eighty cents out of your dollar.  -David Ogilvy

Too often, more attention is given to the content created than the title or headline.

Jeff Goins writes, “You should begin and end every article with the question: ‘Would this make me want to read on?'”

In this article, he offers a simple formula for your titles:

Number or Trigger word + Adjective + Keyword + Promise

You’ve got about 3 seconds to get someone’s attention with your title or your social media post.  Pay attention to the subject lines of the emails you receive from other marketers … notice how some have a title that you can’t ignore … you just have to read more. That’s exactly what you want your titles to do.

5.  BE A RESOURCE

Be a resource for what people need.

Most people are always looking to increase pleasure or decrease pain in their lives.  You can be the “go-to” person that they will learn to rely on for either (as you incorporate all of these tips.)

Being a resource doesn’t mean you have to have a PhD in a subject.

You have skills and life experiences to share with the world.
Life has given you a boatload of skills and experiences to share.

You just have to share what you know … the knowledge you’ve gained and the experiences you have had in life.

Decrease the pain:   What are your skills?  There is someone who is searching how to do exactly what you already know.  You probably have more skills than you realize.  Make a list of everything you know how to do, no matter how insignificant it might seem, from your expertise as a realtor to your amazing skills as a mom. You’d be surprised at what people type in the search bars!

Increase the pleasure:  Are you a motivator?  Do you inspire and encourage people?  Are you funny and entertaining?  Do you write poetry, compose music, create beautiful works of art?  Share your strengths to be a source of light in other lives.

These five tips to help you stand out on the internet are intended to get your creative juices flowing and encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and show the world what you’ve got!

via GIPHY

It does take work, effort and commitment to implement these tips, but, remember, there are millions, sometimes billions of eyeballs.

What other tips have you found to help you stand out on the internet?  Share!  I’d love to hear!

The wrong way to build relationships on social media is running rampant and causing huge distrust in the internet marketing industry. Learn what NOT to do.

The WRONG way to build relationships on social media …

Ever been in one of those relationships that just moved too fast?

It doesn’t just happen in your personal life, it happens in business … most notably(and annoyingly) on social media.

Whether you’re on the receiving end, or the instigator of this rush to get to the “altar” or “get laid,”

what applies in dating, applies on social media:

S L O W Down!

I get tons of friend requests and once I verify this person is not fake … as in, they have a cover photo, they have valuable and inspiring posts on their page instead of endless profile pictures …

I’ll accept the request and it’s not too long before I get a message like this:

“Hey, I’m sure you are going to like what I’m doing to make money, here’s my link, join me!”

There is SO MUCH WRONG with this.

This is the exact reason people are turned off and skittish about EVERYTHING on the internet.

Think back to when you were in the midst of the dating scene – or maybe you still are!  (good for you!)

You make eye contact with someone at a party, in a bar, at an event ..

you smile, you walk towards them, greet them and

have a few moments of “hey, are you having fun, where are you from, you like the music here? – etc.”

The conversation was a simple ice breaker kind of chit chat to see what kind of response you’ll get … to see if there is maybe something here that could develop into something more.

And so, the small talk continues until you royally screw everything up …

by blurting out,  “Let’s get married!”  or “Let’s go to bed!”

What are the odds that ever works?

I’m thinking you’d get a slap across the cheek or a drink thrown in your face.

via GIPHY

Yet, that’s exactly what uninformed, untrained and desperate marketers are doing on social media platforms every single day.

Someone, somewhere told them to hustle … and they interpreted that to mean hurry up and get them to join their business.

(by  the way, hustle has two meanings:
to work hard and fast or
to pull one over on someone.)

You just don’t/shouldn’t ever hustle people.  NEVER!

When you hustle people, it’s like vomiting all over them with your amazing and wonderful chance of a lifetime opportunity. YUCK!

DON’T DO IT!  STOP IT IF YOU’RE DOING IT NOW!

Why?  Because it’s the decent thing to do.  It’s the right way to network and build relationships.  It’s taking the higher road and bringing professionalism to the internet marketing industry.

S L O W down and think about it …

First of all, did you really get to know the person at all?

Did you check their profile or fan page to see what they are promoting?

Did you enter into conversations with them to get to know them better … and actually find out if they had a problem or need that your opportunity or product would help solve?

Did you take time to build a real relationship rather
than the wham-bam-thank-you-maam?

No, you just assumed that your vomit would be
received like a sweet smelling bouquet of roses and
that you would be getting “married” or “laid” immediately.

via GIPHY

Ready to learn some “smooth moves” for building lasting and trustworthy relationships that could turn into customers?

I suggest two books that will help you immensely:

Go_ProFirst, “Go Pro” by Eric Worre, the master teacher of network marketing.

Worre covers all the steps you need to take from the first contact to the follow up.

This book will become you “bible” to guide you in building your business.

Get on Worre’s email list here to receive daily training videos.

win_friends_dale_carnegieThe next book is Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends and Influence People.”

This book is just as useful today as it was when it was first published in 1937.

You will learn how to make people like you, win people over to your way of thinking, and change people without causing offense or arousing resentment.

In addition, make sure that the people who are leading you, training you and telling you how to prospect are not taking you down this road of destruction.

Find mentors who have integrity, who exemplify seeing people instead of dollar signs.

Building lasting, sustaining relationships in business takes time. It takes patience and practice to develop a “knowing” of the person who could be the perfect fit for your team.

But, rushing it, being desperate to the point of vomiting on them and hoping they will join you despite the mess you just made will never work.

Do it right, in dating and in business, and you’ll enjoy years of happy results!

Here’s to lasting, fun and rewarding relationships!

My First Experience with Periscope

My first experience with Periscope …

was NOT perfect!

Periscope is the new social media platform from Twitter that streams your live videos for a 24 hour time period.

It’s brand new, it just launched and today I did my first Periscope video WITHOUT

without waiting to go through training to learn how to do everything perfectly …

without waiting to understand it completely …

without waiting to let others forge ahead and then watch how they are doing it.

my-first-experience-with-periscope-video
My first Periscope video was terribly pixalated

And it WASN’T perfect!

Am I embarrassed?   Am I fretting about the poor video quality?

NOPE!

Because, here’s the thing.

There is always going to be another new social media platform introduced as technology and creative minds develop new ideas.

There is always going to be that learning curve that will keep you feeling like you will never “get it.”

Most of the time, that’s what keeps people stuck … thinking they have to have everything lined up perfectly and know it all BEFORE they start DOING.

Jumping in today on Periscope and shooting my first video did not turn out perfect.  In fact, the video was so pixalated that you couldn’t see the beautiful Ozark woods I was walking through.

Did I fret? Did I worry about what people thought?

NOPE!   I just chalked it up to a learning experience.  (and what I learned is that a slow internet connection will cause this kind of visual issue)

Am I embarrassed?  Not even!

Here’s my first Periscope video – but it’s only available to view for 24 hours.

Periscope is such a fantastic new social media platform that is growing like wildfire.

I’m feeling pretty awesome for daring to boldly go into this new venture today.

I hesitated on Instagram when it first was introduced (thinking I needed some “training” before I messed up.)

I hesitated to learn how to market on Pinterest when I watched other marketers using it to build their businesses. (WATCHED is the key word here.)

My actions today have erased the memories of all those times I hesitated and wished I had been in at the beginning of something.

What’s holding you back right now from jumping on Periscope?

Get Periscope on your phone and let’s connect!

It’s easy to get started as I did:

Set up an account using your Twitter account or your IOS phone number.

Shoot your first video.

Do it again, and again, and again.

Procrastination in the pursuit of perfection will keep you stuck.

I’m excited to hear about your first experience on Periscope!

Lingering in a Soaking Bathtub Can Kill You

It feels so damn good … it relaxes you and relieves stress. You have escaped from the frenzy and you love the feeling.

It’s not easy, it’s worth it.

You’re going to get dirty, you’re going to fall down and scrape your hands and knees, you’re going to sweat like crazy …

Not easy, but oh so worth it.

So worth it to fight for your freedom … fight the daily battles of procrastination, fear, doubt, worry.

So worth it to try something that stretches you.

So worth it to learn from something that didn’t work.

So worth it to see what you’re really made of.

You business won’t grow on its own.  That comes later after you’ve been to the battlefront, trained and fought for the victory.

Dirty-up time!

Don’t come back to the bath until you are covered head to toe in mud … drenched in sweat … smelling like a pig … hands and knees scraped from crawling when you were knocked down …

because that’s who never dies in the bath … the ones who get up and get out there … they don’t need a pat on the back to keep them going … the ones who aren’t afraid of lunging at life … the ones who dare to say “watch me” when someone says they are foolish, crazy, dumb … the ones who leap up when someone pulls the plug on them …

the ones who don’t have time to bathe because there’s money to be made … people to talk to … lives to change.

Get out of the soaking bathtub!
