How to Leverage Your Presence on Facebook

One of the best ways to leverage your presence on Facebook is to be sure you don’t neglect adding information to your “about” section on your personal profile and your Fan Page.

 

Too many people neglect this hugely valuable asset that allows people to find out more about who you are and what you do.

In today’s article, I share tips for your personal profile settings.

Take time to complete your “about” section as shown in the image below.  Utilize the “Details About You” to promote yourself and add a link to a capture page or to your blog post.

When completing the “work and education” section, list your fan page as your current place of employment.

Additional Important Settings for your Personal Profile.  

Be sure to allow people to follow you on Facebook.  Not everyone will send you a friend request – and truly, having followers is just as important as having friends.

Check these privacy settings:

You can access these settings from the drop down in the upper right corner as shown below.  Remember, you are on Facebook to be seen.  Make sure people can actually SEE what you’re posting!

Take control of your personal profile.  As your presence and credibility increases on Facebook, a common practice of others who are trying to leverage your popularity is to post on your page or tag you in their posts.

The best way to keep control of this is to limit who can post on your wall and to always approve any post you are tagged in.  These settings have worked well for me to keep control of my own wall.

These settings are what is working for me.  Take time to check all of your settings and find the ones that suit your needs.  Most of all, be sure that you are available and easily found on Facebook.  People want to get to know you!
