How we De-TOXIC-fy

As I begin to write this blog post, the words from Meatloaf’s “Paradise by the Dashboard Lights” keep playing in my head …

Stop right there!
I gotta know right now.
Before we go any further.

So, before I share about what we do, what we eat, what we take … before we go any further …

Know that I share this to give you insights and ideas to spark your desire to be healthy, NOT to stand on the street corner proclaiming our way is the best way, the only way.

We’re not purists by any means. (Ok, truth be told … Bruce IS the purist. Me? Not 100%.) We do the best we can to eat healthy, build our immune system, restore and repair our health.

But there are times when we’re with family and friends and gratefully eat what is prepared.

And times I slip … like when a Dr. Pepper calls my name.

We’re *health-seekers* like you.

And we call our way of living and eating our “De-toxic-fy Diet” …

The Past

First, a look back at the many events and experiences that led to our decision to be as healthy as possible.

Baby Fat

I packed on the pounds with my first pregnancy and by the time my fourth child was born, I was a hefty 180 pounds. All through those child-bearing years, I tried different diets, different products to no avail. I was addicted to sugar … my sweet tooth craved more doughnuts, more candy, more desserts.

You’ll love this …

A doctor’s appointment with our family doctor caused me to get serious about losing weight. That wasn’t the focus of the appointment at all. But as Dr. Ward was wrapping things up, he wrapped his fingers around my wrist and said, “Why, you’re not big-boned after all.” His subtle remark did the trick without him having to confront me about my weight.

Diets

I started the Atkins’ diet, began losing weight and stuck with it … losing 50 pounds. I was a new woman! I kept the weight off pretty much, even though I slipped back to eating carbs and sugar.

When Bruce and I started our life together, we weren’t focused on health. Young and dumb (still in our 50s.) We were clueless.

Bruce was addicted to ice cream – it was a staple in our home. We treated ourselves with sugary delights, drank Diet Mountain Dew, ate whatever we craved or liked.

My doctor suggested removing gluten from my diet, not because I had celiac disease, but because I was suffering from intense leg and foot cramps. It was easy for me to do this after following the Atkins Diet.

For several years we were ignorant of how unhealthy our diet was … until the blaring fact of aging smacked us to reality, made us aware that it was time to get serious about our health.

The quest began and it wasn’t long until we learned about Wild Fit. Their message resonated with us:

WILDFIT is about returning to eating the way Mother Nature intended
and having the knowledge to give your body the core nutritional elements
that it wants without relying on willpower or the strict rules of a traditional diet.

We didn’t join Wild Fit to lose weight, we jumped on board to reap the health benefits. However, we did lose weight over the 3 months we followed the diet.

The greatest benefit was the knowledge gained about our emotional relationship with food. Wild Fit was the catalyst for all the changes we’ve made since then.

Veggie Smoothies

The Wild Fit diet required making healthy veggie smoothies which I continued religiously. It was a lot of work – from buying the produce, chopping and blending, then freezing the extra servings until needed. Further along in this post, you’ll learn what we discovered to ease my workload.

One final thing about our smoothies. Yes, it was a healthy addition to our diet, except it wasn’t because we didn’t use organic products at the time. Now that we’ve learned more about the *behind the scenes* of organic labeling, we’re completely assured that our smoothies are 100% healthy.

Vegan

After Bruce’s heart attack in 2020, we made an abrupt change to vegan, thinking it was the best way to prevent further heart issues. It caused a lot of work for me to prepare meals. It was expensive to buy all the new ingredients.

It wasn’t long before Bruce admitted that he didn’t enjoy the food I was preparing, that he felt awful for all the work it required. We missed meat! We said good-bye to eating vegan, did lots of research and began the path to where we are today.

The Present

It took a while to navigate a plethora of information and decide what was best for us. Now we eat to live, not live to eat.

Our De-TOXIC-fy Diet

This is how we choose to eat. Remember what I said – we are not purists, we follow our plan as much as possible with occasional slippage.

  • No sugar, processed foods, unhealthy carbs
  • We rarely eat fast-food or at restaurants
  • Choose organic food as much as possible
  • Eat only grass-fed meat
  • Drink a veggie smoothie daily
  • Buy eggs that are labeled *humanely treated* – not just “cage-free”
  • Use highly refined coconut oil for cooking
  • Replaced butter with ghee
  • Fasting, aka Time Restricted Eating

Our snacks?  In place of chips and crackers, we eat organic popcorn popped in Bulletproof XCT coconut oil. We buy organic almond butter and cashew butter from the commune in Missouri that we visit yearly.

And THIS recipe makes a healthier ice cream.

(Bruce is over the moon happy!)

Bulletproof to the Rescue!

Dave Asprey’s story of how and why he started Bulletproof was all the proof we needed to begin preparing the Bulletproof Coffee recipe years ago. We have complete trust in the highest quality of all the products and supplements the company produces.

You’ll become a Bulletproof addict like us once you check out the products, articles, recipes, newsletter and the Bulletproof diet plan.

Our monthly subscription order (which includes a 20% discount) includes:

  • Coffee – because it’s pure Arabica coffee beans, sustainably sourced, Rainforest Alliance Certified and tested for toxins.
  • Ghee – made from the cream from New Zealand grass-fed cows
  • MCT Oil – highly refined coconut oil
  • Greens – provides 35 superfoods, vitamins, minerals and digestive aids
  • Creamer – zero-sugar formula offers both sustained energy and fat-burning fuel
  • Collagen Protein Powder – for healthy skin, bones, joints and connective tissues
  • Express 3-in-1 Probiotic – for healthy digestion and a thriving gut microbiome.

When Bulletproof introduced their Greens product, my first thought was that it would be too expensive for our budget.  I did the math. The cost comparison surprised and delighted me! I would save nearly half by switching. Plus, I wouldn’t have to work so hard preparing our smoothies. YAY!

Wild Pastures Grass Fed Meat

Our commitment to eating only grass-fed meat was limited to the grass-fed ground beef we found in grocery stores … until we found Wild Pastures. Holy cow! What a game changer for us … now we could enjoy chicken and pork and beef and even wild-caught seafood.

100% of Wild Pastures meat is raised on lush, green pastures
by family farmers in the USA using regenerative farming practices.

We are thrilled! We have variety now! We are eating the absolute healthiest meat while supporting family farmers whose farms restore and regenerate Mother Earth.

Check it out at this link where you can get $20 off your first order. We’ll get $20 as well, up to $100 total for referrals. Every little bit helps!

Supplements and Vitamins

I bought a pill dispenser when Bruce was taking a ridiculous amount of pharmaceuticals after his heart attack. Now the dispenser holds our daily vitamins and supplements.

Diving into research about what we need/want to take has been educational, but overwhelming – there’s something for every deficiency and symptom. Currently, this is our regimen:

  • Vit D-3
  • Vit C
  • Zinc with copper
  • Quercetin
  • Magnesium
  • Bulletproof Pro-Biotic

In addition, we take the following Cerule supplements. The story of how they were instrumental in Bruce’s recovery from 13 months of suffering that made us begin end-of-life planning is miraculous.

  • Cerule Stem Cell Enhancer
  • Cerule PlasmaFlo
  • Cerule Cyactiv
  • Cerule Joint

Learn how these supplements restore your health.

I know what you’re thinking … this is expensive. How do you afford these vital products?

We save money by not driving through Starbucks or Quik Trip or McDs every day, by not eating out and by not buying junk food snacks, cereals, etc.

It makes a huge difference in our budget.

But we want/need to do more. Grocery prices keep rising, the empty shelves are alarming and frustrating. Plus, we’ve learned that the organic label doesn’t always represent the standards we thought could be trusted.

It’s time to take control of our future.

The Future

We have lived full-time in our pickup camper since 2010, been on the road since 2013. Thought this would be for the rest of our lives. But life has a way of getting our attention to change our direction.

With all the changes since the *pandemic* of 2020, the loss of freedom, the gloomy predictions of what’s to come, we began to talk with others and everyone said, “We just need our own land to grow our own food, to become self-sufficient.”

That idea, planted in the fertile soil of our hearts, began to grow over the past few months after our hellacious summer of travel. We felt strongly that it was time for us to leave the road, but we had no idea how, where or when.

We came to the desert for the winter, moved out away from the cluster of campers and activities to spend time contemplating, seeking, meditating … knowing we’d find our answer. And we did.

The answer was Divinely delivered, Divinely timed and it’s perfect for what we call our New Mission.

We will obtain land. We will grow our own food. We will do all we can from our little corner in the world to connect and heal people and our planet.

We can’t do this alone.

The dream is beautiful, it’s grand, it’s doable with help. Lots of help.

We are seeking others who align with our mission, our vision.

If you’ve read all the way through this blog post, then your heart is being nudged to contemplate, to consider how you can help.

More to come soon … stay tuned.
