The Naked Hippies Have Some Explaining to Do

We’ve returned to our winter home in the desert in Quartzsite, Arizona for the sixth year and it appears to many that we’ve disappeared. For the past five years, we’ve camped in the same spot … on the main busy road, close to the tent where various social activities take place, in full view and available to anyone who stopped by to say hi.

Someone else is now camping in our usual spot enjoying my rock creations. People are wondering

“Where are Bruce and Trisha?”

Change is inevitable, and the disruption it causes
often brings both inconvenience and opportunity.
— Robert Scoble

It has been quite a disruptive year for us. And, per the above quote … we endured a lot of inconveniences leading us to making a major change in our life.

Last April, we were all set to head to Missouri to see family and friends that we hadn’t been able to visit for two years. The itinerary was fully planned with immense excitement for the many reunions we’d have as we hopped from place to place across the state. And then …

Our last task of filling the fuel tank started the plethora of disruptions that became the theme of our road trip. Unfortunately for us, there was gasoline mixed in with the diesel and Ramsey (our Dodge Ram pickup) immediately got sick. We were towed to our local mechanic who drained the fuel, flushed the lines and wished us safe travels.

From that first tow in April, to when we finally returned to Arizona for the winter in October, Ramsey was towed five times. Disruptions that caused a huge blow to our budget. The numerous repairs plus having to stay in motels while the truck was in the shop mounted to several thousand dollars.

We were blessed by the many people who helped us, especially our dear friends (and Ramsey’s mechanic) Ray and Carol.

Our discussions turned serious.

Oh, we had already tip-toed around making a change in our lifestyle when Bruce had a heart attack and suffered for 13 months until we ditched the meds and chose to take control of his healing through a healthy diet and natural supplements. During those dark and frightening 13 months, we made end of life plans, talked about leaving the road.

With his total recovery, feeling better than he ever had in his life, we resumed our road trip life. The *discussion* was put on the back burner when we agreed that we would KNOW when it was time.

The disruptions of our summer brought the discussion back. We KNEW it was now the time.

We had no idea, no plan of the where, when and how we would be able to make this huge change.

We needed peace and quiet.

Needed isolation to reflect, to contemplate and restore our souls after the hellish summer of travel.

This winter would be a time of searching for guidance and answers. That’s why we moved further out into the desert, away from people and activities.

Another reason we decided to isolate was the disruption caused by health issues I’ve been dealing with for months. While we still don’t have answers until the cardiologist studies the test results, the solitude provided out here in the wide-open expanse of sky and mountains, saguaros and Palo Verde trees is exactly what I needed.

Disruption and chaos always bring opportunities. Because we have learned this from experiences, we are open to all possibilities, all opportunities … and they are springing forth.

The quick and easy change would be to find an apartment or an RV park where we would settle down.

But, we want MORE … more life, more adventures, even more challenges.

This isn’t our first rodeo. We’ve been living our dream since 2009 … we can do it again.

There is excitement building out here in the desert.

There is one possibility that is getting our juices going!

We still have much to learn, to consider, to decide before we share with you. Until then, just know that we are following our hearts’ nudges and guidance with a desire to not only help us, but to help others.

You can share in the excitement of our new dream unfolding – get all the updates on our steps and progress by signing up to receive our emails. Quickly subscribe.

For now, we ask that you hold the space for us, for this change in our life, for our decisions to be from the desire of our hearts.

With love beyond measure,

Trisha and Bruce
