Paradise Found at East Wind Community

Sign leading us to East Wind CommunityWe found paradise at East Wind Community, a hippie community in the Ozarks! Who knew? We surely didn’t expect it to be so perfect and peaceful and profusely rewarding.

It has taken me several attempts and edits to write about it because the three week experience was far above and beyond our expectations and imagination. It’s like trying to explain how falling in love or holding your newborn for the first time feels; or trying to find the perfect words to describe why sunsets and mountains and forests make me cry. It was THAT amazing!

Bruce and I stumbled upon the East Wind Community when we bought a jar of almond butter and noticed it was made in Missouri, in the little town listed as one of the fifty best hippie towns in the US.  We were curious and eager to find out more.

It was no accident, us finding East Wind – it was the Universe planting seeds in the fertile soil of our adventurous minds.  Soon, the familiar conversation which always begins when a new opportunity comes before us started.  “Have you ever?”  “Nope!”  “Do you wanna?”  “OH Yes!”

We did our research – reading everything on the East Wind Community website and our eagerness grew as we poured over all the information, read the history, learned about membership and viewed the pictures. But, just as I’ve said so often about the spectacular places we’ve been able to visit … nothing comes close to actually being there.  Images of the Redwoods will make you gasp at their beauty, but standing among those giants will make you fall to your knees. And so it was to immerse in living and working and communing with this remarkable group of contented and happy people. We felt their heartbeat of freedom, of peace, of oneness and it impacted us deeply.

east wind community ducks
Such fun to observe and be with these graceful and fun creatures!

I felt the presence of peace as we began to meet the members. It was noticeable and tangible to me; and maybe it was because I was an outsider who wasn’t in the throes of daily living/working in the community, but that strong sense of peace in itself told me that this three week experience would be more than just a summer camp type of adventure.

And it truly was, even though I had some wondrously fun experiences feeding the ducks, the calves and even forming a bowl on a pottery wheel!

I was and am still astonished and in awe at how well this egalitarian lifestyle works. It’s definitely an escape from the money stresses and struggles that permeate the “outside” world. However, it’s not for everyone; this lifestyle does require sacrifices of one kind of freedom to gain a different, even greater freedom – just as our roadtrip lifestyle does.  Membership application and approval takes time so that everyone, both members and applicants, can see how well the “fit” is.

east wind community gardens
Nature expresses bountifully and beautifully here

People come to live at East Wind for many reasons. I loved hearing why and how and when they made this their home. One young man expressed how secure and peaceful he feels now that he left society’s hectic pace and scramble to make money.

Another woman shared that she left her law career to come here in order to avoid the stress and exhausting work load she witnessed destroying the lives and dreams of so many of her mentors. Some members have been here for decades; some for a few months. and there is a healthy balance of young and old.

Here at East Wind, all the basics like shelter, food, and even clothing from the community closet are provided. But the treasured jewel of this community living, I believe, is how this lifestyle helps each member develop an intrinsic purpose of contribution for the good of the whole community. It is like a well-oiled machine with many moving parts.

Everyone works here, that’s a requirement. It’s necessary, but it is so off-the-charts better than any “job” I’ve ever had in the 8-5 world. Why? Because you get to do what you love and if you change your mind and want to do something else, you can – even if you don’t have the skills or experience. There are so many different jobs available that boredom and burnout are not issues. You have the opportunity and are allowed to switch jobs.  You pretty much set your own hours, take breaks when you choose as long as you fulfill the required number of hours each week.  Most of all, you feel immensely satisfied that your work is valued, no matter what you do.  It ALL fits together to benefit everyone.

east wind community herb garden
Such a pleasant cubicle to work every day!

During our three week visit, we were completely satisfied and happy weeding the herb garden and helping out with washing dishes.  In return, we were fed the most nutritious meals we’ve ever had prepared by members whose “job” that day was cooking for 60 people.

When we left, we told everyone that we wouldn’t eat this well until we returned for another visit.  Every meal was a banquet of scrumptious healthy dishes of garden vegetables and while we were there, we feasted on the meat from a freshly butchered hog! We enjoyed fresh milk, cream, yogurt, kefir and cheeses. We had access to an abundance of herbal teas and tinctures, formulated and prepared using the herbs from the garden. Freshly baked bread was almost a daily treat. Such abundance, such love and care for all the food and animals and people abounds here.

This amazing design uses no hardware for support

Throughout the community there were places to gather and relax with others. Our favorite spot was in the herb garden, under the newly built yurt. It was constructed with cedar logs cut from the community’s forest and it supported a massive and intricate growth of wisteria, providing shade and shelter to all who gathered. And all who gathered ‘round the table there, who shared stories and conversations with us, we loved. Our hearts are woven together now – always with us no matter how great the distance that separates us, and always tugging to pull us back to East Wind.

This was our favorite gathering place

Our perception of community living was  greatly expanded, enriched and reshaped during our visit so much so that we are open to making East Wind our home; but not yet.  We still have more wandering to do.  But, the members at East Wind have shown us a better way, a different way, a more fulfilling way to live.  The value of contributing and serving to the benefit of everyone, the equality of worth among all members, and the quality of life provided from the sustenance of the land are what will bring us back to East Wind as regular visitors until our nomadic lifestyle is done.

The Naked Hippies in Quartzsite

In two days, the wheels will start turning once again as we begin our trek back to Missouri to visit family and friends after spending 40 days and 40 nights in the desert in Quartzsite.

Well, not really 40 days and 40 nights. We’ve been here for 151 days, a total of five months camping off the grid on BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land where hundreds of thousands gather every winter to escape the cold and snow.

We came here not knowing all the how’s and when’s and where’s of setting up camp in the middle of a desert … new territory with new experiences. All that we knew for sure was that our $180 long-term camping pass bought us a camping spot from October 15 to April 15 and access to trash dumpsters, water and a dump station.

RVs everwhere in Quartzsite!

The total acreage of the BLM land in Quartzsite is over 11,000 acres. There are four different camping areas available and during the height of the winter season, all are filled with the assorted extreme of campers — from tents to vans to pickup campers to the fancy schmantzy class A’s.

The population of this tiny little town explodes during the winter season from 879 to estimates of hundreds of thousands!

We arrived before the onslaught and by the time we prepared to leave in April, it was fast becoming a ghost town again.

Big Foot nestles in Quartzsite desert

We picked a spot, further back across a few washes with a beautiful saguaro out our back door, surrounded by mountains, where the sunrises and sunsets dazzled and awed.

Once we settled in, we never sought a different spot – it was perfect. Lots of wide open space all around us, a few neighbors now and then, but no one ever parked close enough to make us feel like our space was being invaded.

So began a new experience of living in the desert – and even after five months, we are still taken aback by the majestic beauty, the peace and serenity and finding it difficult to leave. But, then, a few recent days with temps in the 90s tells us we definitely don’t want to be here during the heat of the summer.

Now, I at first thought this blog post would tell you how we lived here and made it work without full hook-ups. Nah … that’s not why I am compelled to write about camping in Quartzsite. There’s plenty of others who give you the tips and tricks for doing this sort of camping. Same as my book that isn’t a “how to” live a fulltime RVing life, but a WHY to live your dream.

No, it was all the new experiences we had here, far removed from the hustle and bustle of society (at least until we had to make trips to replenish supplies). Life slowed down, time expanded and we found ourselves living with the rhythm of nature.

Quartzsite rocks create a beautiful peace sign

I was immediately drawn to the rocks that grace the land here. I couldn’t resist their pull to be noticed, appreciated, held and yes gathered in my pockets or bag to take home.

The gleaming white quartz that I collected became a giant peace sign that marked our camping spot. And then, the other rocks of a vast assortment of colors began to cry out to me … greens, blues, turquoise, rose, orange, purple … so vivid and beautiful as I walked the desert washes.

Spectacular sunrises every morning in Quartzsite

How perfect this setting was for us … out in nature, removed from traffic and frenzy, spectacular sunrises and sunsets, a blanket of stars at night, full rainbows, coyote serenades … so perfect.

And then, there were the people we met here who became like a family so that even though we were far removed from society, we found a circle of friends who reached out, invited, shared and helped with what they had, what they knew.

If we wanted to be around people, the huge tent that served as a community center provided plenty of opportunities to connect and engage and have fun. There was a calendar filled with activities – from yoga, exercise, dances, karaoke, creative crafts, Vegas nights, movie nights and a daily happy hour that brought us out of solitude to meet and get to know the other campers.

When Thanksgiving and Christmas came, we gathered for potluck dinners that more than satisfied our taste buds and soothed and comforted our separation from families back home.

We were blessed by these new friends who came to our rescue when repairs were needed, when we needed groceries or firewood. Friends who said, “Come, let’s go to Mexico!”  Friends who made Bruce’s birthday special by sitting around our campfire. Friends who gave, served, loved life, loved freedom, just like us.

The blessing of this circle of friends was unexpected and a saving grace that filled these five months with fun and laughter, adventure and new experiences … like dancing the night away.

Dancing! It was something that Bruce and I had never done aside from a slow dance under the stars sometimes … but never in public among other people. With the almost weekly dances, we couldn’t, wouldn’t, didn’t want to exclude ourselves from the fun, so we went to our first dance. Loved it.  Went to the next and the next and the next.

We were dancing fools! Crank up the 70s rock n’ roll and we never left the dance floor!  It was like being back in high school as the familiar tunes reached our memories. We found our rhythm – we danced like no one was watching – huge smiles never left our faces.

So, while we were having a blast here, loving everyone and everything that we were experiencing, the “other” side of our life continued to evolve and expand and keep us with one foot in the “real” world while the other foot secluded and separated us from it.

Life interrupted harshly. My brother-in-law died, followed by the death of our dear friend in Eureka Springs. Life also blessed and enriched us. A granddaughter came into this world. Bitcoin rose to new heights and our investments in cryptocurrencies provided the means to make major repairs on our truck. I began a weekly call that allows me a platform to develop my teaching and speaking skills.

And, after all the fun and excitement of the activities and friendships made, we retreated to immerse in what matters most of all – returning to the one path that we never leave, no matter where the road takes us – going within.

It’s like a calling, a whisper, a nudge, a reminder that no matter where we are, what we do, who we are with … there is a greater power within that provides more fun, more connection, more peace and more love, beauty and joy than all that we see surrounding us in this physical world.

We were moved and drawn to this return by the experience of the drum circles we attended week after week. A new rhythm was found there as we sat around the campfire joining in to keep the beat of Mother Earth strong. A familiar rhythm that rose up and grew within and without.

For the last couple of months here in Quartzsite, we remembered, renewed and restored the rhythm of us, Bruce and Trisha, the Naked Hippies. Some of the inner work we did was painful, but it opened for us a deeper connection, both to each other and to God.

Our daily routine changed from seeking stimulation and support from outside of ourselves to finding the true Source of it all. At times, we made ourselves go into town just to come down from the lofty heights that we were experiencing.

It has been phenomenal. Our camper became our sanctuary. We immersed in teachings that broke open new understanding of why we are here, what really matters, how we react and respond, what we really believe.

It has prepared us for the road ahead. Not just the travels we will enjoy this summer, but also for all that life will drop in for us to experience – all of it, from the highest highs to the lowest lows.

And most of all, this time and energy we have spent as strengthened our faith, trust and belief that we are loved, supported, protected and provided for fully, abundantly, unconditionally, exceedingly by the One who is called God, The Universe, Source, Spirit, Quanta. The One who said, “Ask and it will be given. Seek and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened.”

In a couple of days, we will head to Missouri to be reunited with our kids, grandkids and friends. We will most likely look the same to them (a little more tan, of course) but we are not the same as we were the last time we were together. We have grown spiritually to a new level that will only be evident and expressed by our words and actions.

We came to the desert to escape the cold of winter and to rest and be renewed. Oh, how our time has been blessed beyond what we first imagined when we planned for our winter in Quartzsite.

Blessings have poured forth to us over and over in all the ways I’ve shared in this blog post, and in ways that words cannot convey.

We leave here with the peace, love, assurance and delight
that come as we open ourselves to be an expression of God
living in us, through us, as us.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Canada said NO to the Naked Hippies

[et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row custom_padding=”27px|0px|32px|0px” admin_label=”row”][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_image src=”https://nakedhippiesroadtrip.us/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/canada-said-no.jpg” alt=”Canada said no to the Naked Hippies” animation=”off”][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_text text_font_size=”16″]

OH NO! Canada said NO to The Naked Hippies!

This was unexpected!

We were shocked, saddened and suddenly knocked off the path we had so sure-footedly followed for the past month.

What the heck happened?

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row custom_padding=”0px|0px|27px|0px”][et_pb_column type=”2_3″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_text text_font_size=”16px”]

The day started out on a euphoric high. We were headed to Canada! We were going to be participating in the Sundance Ceremony of the Cree Nation.

And we were so ready … ready for some pretty astonishing “firsts” for us … crossing the border; immersing in the culture and ceremony of a tribe; and meeting Dr. Bruce Lipton.

For a whole month since receiving the news that we were chosen to be part of this select group, we planned, researched and prepared. We carefully got our passports; we dutifully stocked up on items needed for the offerings to the tribe; I eagerly bought long skirts to wear as required for the women; we did a final clean out of the fridge and the camper. Ready, set, go!!

And we expected somewhat of a second look from the border agents as we pulled up to the window. From all the stories we had read, we knew that getting pulled over to come inside was a regular event.

So, when the agent asked us to do just that – pull your vehicle over and come inside – we obeyed, knowing that we would be asked questions about our trip and possibly have our camper and truck searched. No biggie. We were prepared, or so we thought.

The questions began as we went inside and approached the border agent:  “Have you ever been arrested?” Bruce answered, “Yes.”

“When was that?” asked the agent?  “Fifteen years ago,” was Bruce’s reply.

Bruce answered truthfully. He explained it fully.

Oh, the historical past life of Bruce – before Trisha. The long and winding road he traveled for years before we met was a road that bent, broke, shaped and formed Bruce into the man I fell in love with.

It’s not something he talks about often, and those who know him know he doesn’t talk much anyway, unless his passion for life and learning is unleashed.

The past is over. It’s over for all of us. We close the book on mistakes and regrets and move on because hanging on to it serves no purpose. It doesn’t define you, it is only the path you took that helped create the person you are today.

Bruce used to be a drunk. It started when he joined the Coast Guard at age 21 and was quickly inducted into alcohol consumption as a means to relax and unwind; unfortunately, it became more than just a means to that end.

His last drink was fifteen years ago, as was his last DUI.

Now, in our way of thinking, fifteen years of sobriety is a huge deal to celebrate. Not so with the system.

The system … filled with rules and regulations that ignore human potential; that restricts and prohibits freedom. It sucks. It affects every one and every part of our lives.

We sat in the border crossing building for four hours.

Finally, the agent called Bruce to his desk and told him he was not allowed to enter Canada. He said, “You can willingly agree to willingly accept a deportation document and go back to the U.S., or I can arrest you right here.”

We were in shock.

We cried.

We got back in the truck, deportation letter in hand and turned back to the United States.

Everything we had been planning dissolved into a heap of confusion, remorse, frustration and anger.

Our emotions were raw, intense and painful. The plunge from the euphoria we had felt when this day began plummeted to the dark depths of grief.

As we drove, we talked about what we know and believe … that everything happens for us, not to us. It serves a purpose, even when it’s beyond our comprehension. Oh, but it was a tough shift to make from pain to expectation of something better.  Especially since now our plans to go to our next PSYCH-K class was shot to hell. It is scheduled for September … in Canada.

As much as we were looking forward to the Sundance Ceremony and the spiritual growth we would experience there, the September PSYCH-K class has been our dream, our goal since we attended our first class in March.

What now?

What do you do when your dream crumbles?

Well, you start questioning and doubting yourself … are we really meant to do this? Are we on the right path? Are we good enough? Smart enough? Worthy enough?

We ARE. We know that.

PSYCH-K has changed our lives in miraculous ways, instantly changing limiting beliefs.  We have experienced it personally and witnessed it first hand in the lives of those who have asked us to help them change beliefs.

The reason this advanced class is so important to us is because it will greatly expand our reach, so that we can help anyone from anywhere we are. Right now, we can only work one-on-one with those who we meet up with as we travel. At the advanced class, we will learn how to do the processed remotely.

But now, we cannot go to Canada in September to learn how to do this. We are still limited

Unless … unless there is another way?

Sneak into Canada?  Hardly! No way! Wouldn’t dare!

It’s a familiar truth … when God closes a door, he opens a window.

That is exactly what happened. Door slammed shut. A window opened.

We knew our PSYCH-K trainer, Karen McKy, had recently scheduled an advanced training class in July coinciding with the time we would be in Canada at the Sundance Ceremony.

Wheels began to turn … well, the wheels in our mind; not the truck wheels – at least not yet.

Are we being led to Colorado? Is this why this huge fiasco at the border happened?

But it’s too soon. We are still raising money for this advanced training through crowd funding. We have three more months of asking and receiving donations from friends and acquaintances who know what this will mean for them.  One week is way too soon.

We called Karen with heavy hearts and explained what had happened at the border … and that we wouldn’t be at the September class.

She immediately assured us of all things always working out in spite of setbacks like this. Her love and wisdom soothed our broken spirits.

Then, she graciously offered us seats at the class, knowing that we were still raising the funds and did not have enough for the class fee … yet.

Our rise back to euphoria was instant!

We are going to Colorado!

Karen know that we are fully committed to PSYCH-K and to taking all the next steps that will enable us to do what we dream of doing – helping people break free from whatever is holding them back.

The spiritual growth we were seeking from the Sundance Ceremony is waiting for us in Colorado, not in Canada. Our path has been rerouted. Our plans thwarted and changed. Our dream has been propelled ahead by three months!

We believe this has all happened so dramatically because the time to help everyone is now, not in three months.

The message was heard loud and clear:  URGENT!! Get your shit together and do it NOW!

From what we’ve seen ever since we left Arizona in April and traveled over 5,000 miles through 11 states is that everyone we have talked to, all those we meet on the road, are still struggling in some area of their lives.

Yes, everyone … struggling because of limiting beliefs that many of you have been trying to change for years, maybe even decades.

If it wasn’t for the things we’ve done over the last ten years, we wouldn’t have this great lifestyle of traveling on the never-ending roadtrip. But what we’ve also found over the last few years is that the things we have learned, practiced, given and shared was done so with fingers crossed, hope this will work kind of prayer.

And, even though we’ve read some great books and used some fantastic modalities, we still had this residual of all this stuff that was stopping us. So, we decided to go to the first PSYCH-K training, and it really got us to the last piece to get us moving forward again in ways we had always hoped to experience.

PSYCH-K is the most amazing process of communicating directly with your subconscious mind to change the beliefs that are holding you back, the beliefs that continue to feed your struggles. It takes minutes, not decades to change a belief with PSYCH-K. That is why this is so important to us. We know the feeling of frustration and self-doubt that creeps in when all of your efforts to think positive thoughts, repeat affirmations,  and attract what you desire are just not working.

There is a greater plan unfolding here. The plan includes you.

We are changing the world, one person at a time, to break free and live a life of happiness, health and abundance.

With complete confidence, we know that if you are open and willing to allow us to work with you, PSYCH-K will easily and miraculously change your doubts, fears, pain and struggles so that you can experience the life you have hoped for, longed for, prayed for, for so long.

We have already received some donations to our goal of attending the advanced class. It’s been such a humbling honor to receive the donations because these are people who know us, believe in our work and are willing to help us get to the advanced class.

Now, because we are suddenly going to be at this training next week, we’re reaching out to everyone who is reading this, asking you to consider a donation of $100, $500, $1000 or more to the Naked Hippies Dream.

All contributors will receive a complimentary PSYCH-K session to help you with whatever residual stuff is blocking you.  (the greater the donation, the more free sessions you will receive.)

If this blog post had not already been so lengthy, I would share here how PSYCH-K brought us to a 180 degree turn around from Canada to Colorado. This realization came today after we had time to process and surrender to the seemingly devastating disappointment at the border. Instead, there are some amazing stories found here.

Everything, and I mean every thing that happens in our lives is for a purpose. Sometimes, we get to see why clearly; sometimes, we have to trust in a bigger, unrevealed picture.

I believe you are an integral part of the bigger picture.

I believe you are worthy of living a life of well-being.

I believe we are meant to work together to change your limiting beliefs with PSYCH-K.

I believe you will sincerely consider contributing to our dream.

I believe in you.

The question now is … are you ready to change things in your life?

To learn more about what to expect in your free session(s), go here.

If you already know that I have your best interests at heart and are ready to work directly with me on changing your limiting beliefs, make your contribution here with two options:

I’m in awe of everything that happened to us at the border and the way a way has been provided for us to continue on with our dream.

We truly believe everything in life happens FOR you, not TO you.

This has happened FOR us to get to where we can help you now,
not in three months.

Thank you for your love and support.

I so look forward to helping you.

Love and light and a huge THANK YOU,

Trisha

P.S.  You know me … I am particular about the look
and design of my blog posts; however, this had to be
written and published asap to get the word out about
why we aren’t in Canada, and also to push ahead
quickly for donations. I had to forego my perfectionism!

A Chance of a Lifetime for the Naked Hippies

[et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row”][et_pb_column type=”2_3″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_text text_font_size=”16px”]

It’s the chance of a lifetime! In a few hours, we’ll be traveling through states we haven’t seen before.

In another week, we’ll be crossing the border to Canada for the first time.

It’s a detour from our original roadtrip plans for this summer, but it’s one that we definitely wouldn’t, couldn’t miss … a chance of a lifetime!

Several weeks ago, we received an email from Dr. Bruce Lipton announcing a special opportunity for a select group of twenty people to attend a life-changing experience.  Consideration for the event required an email response telling why we wanted to attend.

We responded immediately, without hesitation, with our heartfelt, passionate reasons for attending.

This is something Bruce has always penciled in on his bucket list – penciled in because he knew the likelihood of being part of a sacred Native American ceremony was slim for outsiders.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row custom_padding=”27px|0px|0px|0px”][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_image src=”https://nakedhippiesroadtrip.us/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Bruce.jpg” animation=”off” url_new_window=”on” alt=”Chance of a lifetime for the Naked Hippies” url=”https://nakedhippiesroadtrip.us/rapid-mindset-change/”][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_text]

When Bruce and I first met, he told me he was 1/3 hippie, 1/3 hillbilly, and 1/3 Native American.

Even though he cannot prove his Indian heritage, it has been apparent to others who have seen and felt the connection, including his step-dad who created this painting of Bruce in full Native American regalia.

While we waited to hear back from Dr. Lipton and with a strong desire to be chosen among the twenty, we applied for our passports. It was our way of taking a step in faith to say, “Hey, Universe, we are doing our part, now you do yours!”

The day we completed the passport applications at the post office is the day we returned home and found the email confirmation in our inbox!

We shouted! We cried!
We danced!

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row custom_padding=”27px|0px|0px|0px”][et_pb_column type=”2_3″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_text]

In another week, we will be immersed in preparing for and participating in the Cree Indian Sundance Ceremony in Alberta, the most important spiritual ritual of the natives of the North American Great Plains.

We will be living and working side by side among the tribe members … creating the elaborate ritual arbor, dancing in the Ceremony, honoring Mother Earth and learning from the wisdom of Chief White Standing Buffalo.

It is an honor beyond words.

It is a spiritual, sacred experience that will impact and change our lives.

We are heading to unknown territories, physically and spiritually.

And we couldn’t be more excited and ready!

Stay tuned … we’ll be back to share our stories and experiences.
