Quit Your Job and Travel

Quit your job and travel? Really?

Most people think the odds are against them when they hear “quit your job and travel.”

But it’s the #1 response people give when asked “what would you love to do more than anything?”  No. 1 is travel and the No. 2 response is quit my job.

The #1 reason they give for NOT doing either is money.

You’re about to meet some people who will inspire you and show you that it doesn’t take a lot of money to travel.

And, you’re going to learn that there are countless ways to travel cheaply and even make travel your business.

Meet the dreamers and doers:

First off, meet Nomadic Matt who will prove to you it’s possible to travel without a lot of money.

It all started with Matt’s desire to travel.

QUIT YOUR JOB AND TRAVEL … life’s too short to wait.

packing_lightIt was the title of Allison Vesterfelt’s first book that grabbed my attention and interest …

“Packing Light: Thoughts on Living Life with Less Baggage.”

Allison dreamed of being a writer and finally made the leap by quitting her full time job, selling nearly everything she owned and taking off on a year long journey across the country in her Subaru Outback.

Her story of the journey and struggle to get her book published will inspire you, because of the insights she gained as she moved past obstacles.  She now is an author of two additional books “The Chase”, and “ Writing to Find Yourself: Becoming More Authentic Through the Art of Writing”  and is helping aspiring writers become published authors.

Subscribe to her list to receive her inspiring messages of creating your own awesome life.

It all started with a year long roadtrip for Allison.

It all starts with the dream to quit your job and travel.

Nadine Pisani had a dream to quit her job and move to Costa Rica.  In her book “Happier Than a Billionaire: Quitting My Job, Moving to Costa Rica, and Living the Zero Hour Work Week” she share’s how she and her husband risked it all for the dream of living the life they desired.

Happier_than_a_Billionaire

Her wit and humor will have you laughing as she shares how they found reliable utilities are not that reliable, quirky neighbors are unavoidable, and tackling red tape takes the strength of a linebacker

She has since written two additional books to help you even more if your dream is to move to Costa Rica.  “Happier Than a Billionaire: The Sequel”  is their story of moving to the beach to build their dream home and discovering that not all dreams come in the form of brick and mortar. Some appear after taking a chance when all odds are against you.

The third book “Happier Than A Billionaire: The Escape Manual” is your how-to manual, your guide for moving to, living in or traveling through Costa Rica.

Check out her blog.

It all started with a Nadine’s desire to quit her job and live in a tropical paradise.

Quit your job and travel … on the cheap!

We learned about Vanabode by Jason Odom long before we were living in our pickup camper.  Is it any wonder that his message intrigued us when we were still dreaming of living on a never-ending roadtrip:

I will show every single person how to get out of their current situation and on to the road trip of a lifetime by using the strategies and equipment my wife and I have used for 21+ years.

If you want to be successful and have fun every single day of your life let me spoon-feed you our solid, proven, well-explained plan. I cover everything you need to have a great life on $20 a day; including delicious food, lodging, transportation, a hot bath, a good night’s sleep in your own clean bed, and days and nights filled with great fun, romance, and new experiences.

Wikipedia’s definition of a “disruptive technology” or “disruptive innovation” describes Vanabode precisely; innovations that improve a product or service in ways that the market does not expect, typically by being lower priced or making something for everyone that was previously only available to the rich.

vanabode

We immediately bought the book “Vanabode happily camp, travel and live forever on $20 a day.”

This book is as wondrous as the Sears Catalog used to be for my grandparents!  We devoured it, began to see how traveling was possible without having a huge bank account first.   And there are times we still consider a white Chevy van. (Get the book to find out why.)

For Jason, it started with a dream to live and travel cheaply.

Miracles happened to us … it can happen to you, too, when you quit your job and travel.

Finally, meet the Naked Hippies!  That’s us!  Since November 2013 we have been traveling the open road on a never-ending roadtrip.  It’s our dream come true.

Naked Hippies Roadtrip One Year Mark

Did we have a huge savings when we started out?  No.
Did we have a top of the line RV when we left Missouri?  No.
Did we have an online business that we could do from anywhere we parked our camper. YES!

We had the dream, the desire and the belief that everything would be provided as needed. And it has been.

12071894_10208713955626951_1220778536_nI just published my first book, written to tell our story… you can read how we got rid of everything and lived in a tent one summer … how our pickup camper literally dropped in our laps… of our adventures and fun as our dream became real and we hit the road.

And most of all, just like the others mentioned above, you’ll be inspired to go for your dream … NOW!  Pick up your copy of “RV LIVING The Naked Hippies Way: Live YOUR Dreams, Don’t Wait for “Someday”

I know you’re thinking … are they really naked?  You’ll have to read the book!

For the Naked Hippies, it started with a dream to live, travel and work on the never-ending roadtrip.

Every single person featured in this blog post started with a dream.  A dream to travel, a dream to quit their  job, a dream to write, to inspire, to show others how it can be done.

Yes, you can quit your job and travel.
If you could take off and go anywhere right now, where would you go?
See you on the road!

Living in a Van to Travel Further, Easier and Cheaper

Living in a van? Are you out of your mind?

We've done the RV travel; now it's time to Vanabode!I bet you are having flashbacks of Chris Farley on Saturday Night Live talking about living in a van down by the river – right?

Before you conclude that living in a van is a ludicrous, wacky and absolutely crazy way to live and travel … hear me out. It’s a fun way to travel further, much easier and lots cheaper. And, it is a way to begin living to travel NOW!

Ask anyone what they would do if time and money were no object and 95% would answer, “TRAVEL!”

And yet, most people have a distorted perspective of what it means to travel. A two week vacation to Hawaii does require you to travel there, but it’s only a temporary escape and an expensive travel experience that ends as soon as you walk back in your front door after a long flight home, sit the luggage down and heave a big sigh, because it’s back to the routine, the same ol’, same ol’ life, day in and day out.

Without a doubt, you had a wondrous time in Hawaii and have pictures to keep the memories alive. But within a short time of being back in the rat race, it feels like you never really were away and you begin to long for the next vacation … which won’t happen for another year.

Meanwhile, you work your ass off to either pay for the vacation you just had or to save up for next year’s trip. Maybe next year, you’ll just go to Florida because Hawaii was quite the expensive vacation. In 2015, a one-week  “budget” trip to Hawaii cost approximately $5000 for a couple compared to $1120 for a “budget” vacation in Florida for one week. So Florida it is … but it is still a year away.

Oh, there are so many places you want to see and experience, but the limitation of one or two weeks of vacation time a year greatly reduces how many you’ll check off your list.

Sigh. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could just go? Go with no restriction on time? Go anywhere, go further, stay longer?

Wouldn’t it be absolutely fantastic if every day was a vacation?

“But wait, that would cost a fortune!” you think.

I have just one question for you …

How bad do you want this dream?

When I share that I can show you how to live and travel for $20 a day, you’ll lean in and eagerly be all ears. I know you’re already doing the math in your head and second-guessing the dollar amount. You know the price of hotels and flights and meals and souvenirs and those exorbitant tourist town taxes.

“Impossible!” you say.

Let me introduce you to the Vanabode lifestyle … the way you CAN live and travel to all those places you have on your list for $20 a day while living in a van.

Now, before you read any further, let me be clear about one thing. This lifestyle may not be for you if you cannot simplify your life, if having a dozen pair of shoes, a closet full of clothes, a kitchen full of appliances and a house full of stuff is more important to you than a travel lifestyle.

Yep. Lost a few readers with that disclaimer.

The American Dream is a lie.

We  have been programmed to believe and put all our time, money and energy into the American Dream … get a degree, get a job, buy a house and spend the rest of your life waiting for retirement so you can relax and do what you have only been allowed to do for two weeks every year.

Living in a van is a perfect solution if you desire to own your life instead of your life owning you.

In this video from Business Insider, James Altucher, author of “Choose Yourself” speaks bluntly and clearly about the lie of the American Dream.

Don’t subscribe to some mass hypnosis dream that was designed to get us to spend as much money and time on other people’s dreams as possible.  – James Altucher

The only dream that matters, the only dream worth building is YOUR dream.

You don’t own stuff, the stuff OWNS you.

It’s a crazy madness that takes control over your life.  Society has programmed us to accumulate and fill our houses, closets, shelves and garages with more and more and more stuff – to the extent that garages no longer have space for cars and the storage shed business is growing rapidly.

We buy stuff at an alarming rate and then spend more time and money maintaining, repairing and replacing it, often getting a second job to help continue this endless, maddening cycle of materialism.

In the end, after you are gone from this physical body, all that “stuff” will be sorted, distributed and fought over by greedy relatives … because, well, because everyone has become addicted to accumulating more and more.

So, now imagine living a simple life where you have everything you need, but it all fits in a van. That is the Vanabode lifestyle. A simpler life that allows you to expand your life instead of expanding stuff.

Why the Vanabode Lifestyle is Less Stressful than the RV Lifestyle

Some will argue to the moon and back that the best way to live and travel the country is in a RV, and while it’s definitely a step closer to a life of freedom, there are some drawbacks that we have experienced on the Naked Hippies never-ending roadtrip.

The biggest drawback is that you have limited freedom and mobility. Even a small pickup camper like our Big Foot can’t always easily be pulled into parking spaces or lots. And, the bigger the RV, the more difficult this becomes.

While most Wal-Marts remain available for overnight parking, more and more cities are passing ordinances against RVs. We used to love going to Ocean Beach, California because we could park on any street and usually found a space a block from the beach. We would spend the day enjoying the town, the beach, the sunset and then crawl into our camper to sleep. That freedom ended when San Diego County decided to prohibit RVs this parking privilege by issuing fines – even to homeowners who had been parking their RVs in front of their house. It’s becoming more and more restrictive to gallivant around the country in an RV.

Of course, there are endless RV parks where you can stay for one night or for the season, or for years; but in our experience, these feel like a crowded suburbia with numbered lots drawn out in endless rows, the RVs sitting shoulder to shoulder like little soldiers. RV parks are no different than hotels … if you want more space around you, if you want a room “with a view,” you pay extra – lots extra.

And then, after you’ve parked your RV in one of these parks, in a constricting tiny space where there may or may not be a patch of nature to soften the harshness of all the asphalt, you will need some mode of transportation to get you to anywhere else in the surrounding area – the grocery store, the trails for hiking, the museums and restaurants. You leave your home in RV suburbia just as you do when living in a house or apartment in any town. The only difference is that you now have a home on wheels, but wait a minute, the wheels aren’t moving, so there’s really no difference.

When you are living in a van, you never leave your home, it is always with you, like a turtle. Everywhere you go, you always have everything you need. Your bed is always available for an afternoon nap or movie on a rainy day when plans for the beach or a hike are halted.

Another drawback to consider is the expense of owning and maintaining an RV. As with anything, the more bells and whistles, the more there is to maintain and repair. RVs are one step closer to freedom, but they still can cost you tons. Buy a new one, and it’s like you’ve taken on a new mortgage. But a used one, and you will be investing in repairs and replacements, just like buying a “fixer-upper” house. Plus, there will be additional taxes, licenses and insurance.

It really comes down to what you want and why it matters to you. If luxury and gadgets and size matter, this article has already bored you.

But, if simplicity and freedom to go anywhere without stress or worry is your dream, you’ll keep reading and you will get the Vanabode book.

How the Vanabode book will help you, even if you don’t want to live in a van.

When we first began planning to live fulltime in an RV, we found Jason Odom’s book about the Vanabode lifestyle. We learned tips that became part of our lifestyle as we took off in our pickup camper. And while the book focuses on living in a van, it has been our “Bible” for learning how to live simply and cheaply as we travel full time.

This is no ordinary “how to” book. Jason has covered every aspect of living in a van and not just from ideas about how to do this, but from his own experiences of actually living this way. He addresses getting out of debt; he suggests ways to create income on the road; he illustrates and explores the simplicity in eating and clothing. He shares the essential tools and products he uses for creating comfort and ease of Vanaboding.

But most of all, he proves that the life of travel is affordable and so very rewarding, especially as you take the back roads, the scenic highways and have the freedom to stop anywhere and embrace the beauty and splendor of what nature is expressing in glorious display.

Bruce and I travel to see, explore, discover and be immersed in the wonders and essence of nature. We’ve been on the road since 2013 in our pickup camper and it’s been the most amazing, fulfilling and enriching experience. And now, we’re in the midst of planning for our Vanabode. We’re ready to simplify even more and have the ultimate freedom to go anywhere, park anywhere as we continue to live on our never-ending roadtrip.

Jason not only provided our Vanabode “Bible,” when we bought the book, he shared access to an extensive location specific list for each state. Each state listed contains pictures and information that cover things like what to do when you get there, what time of year to visit to avoid the crowds, temperature ranges from night to day, expected budget, and safety concerns if any.

Whether it’s a big city you are going to visit or an adventure into the woods, it’s like having your own travel concierge.

He recently published a new book about his trip along the East Coast – written to prove the naysayers who said you can’t possibly live and travel on $20 a day in the East.  He documented the trip – 18 weeks, 7500 miles on $20 a day along the breathtaking and beautiful East Coast. The book was a delightful read and has inspired and lured us to make that trip the first one we take in our Vanabode! We’ll use this book as a resource on our East Coast trip for Jason shares many insider tips that he and his wife discovered about every stop they made along the way.

But, it’s the original book that gave us the push, the ideas, the solutions to help us live and travel and work easily and cheaply on the open road, even though we were living in a pickup camper, not living in a van.

In my new book “RV LIVING: THE NAKED HIPPIES WAY: Live YOUR Dreams, Don’t Wait for Someday,” many of the ideas I share about how we live and travel cheaply were inspired by what we learned from the Vanabode book. Jason’s book is a catalyst that gets you  thinking outside the box so that you can begin now to break free and travel … to exciting big cities, to quaint little beach towns, to remote areas where it’s just you and Nature.

Traveling is one of the most rewarding experiences in life … right up there with giving birth! It calls, it nudges, it pulls you to come, to do, to break free … like a song playing over and over in your heart with a melody that expresses joy and freedom and delight. Do you hear the song? It is calling you, urging you, pulling you to come … see … explore … experience the wondrous life of freedom.

Living in a van allows you the freedom to go anywhere and everywhere.

The question that remains is WILL YOU?  Only you can answer that question, only you can sing your song of freedom. Don’t wait.

Many people die with their music still in them. Why is this so? Too often it is because they are always getting ready to live. Before they know it, time runs out. ~Oliver Wendell Holmes

Get the book … see what you can do starting now to travel further, easier and cheaper.

We’ll be living in a van soon … see you on the road!

What is the path of least resistance to manifesting your dream?

Path of Least Resistance to our Vanabode

What is the path of least resistance to manifest what you desire?

What do you do when that which you want seems to be taking such a long time to get here?

The natural tendency for most people is to get frustrated and even a little bit angry. Sometimes, jealousy and envy erupt as you see that others seem to “have it all” and you begin to doubt that you’ll ever truly manifest what you desire.

That’s the rub. That’s the resistance. That’s the issue that needs to be addressed.

We have a new dream now that we manifested the freedom to live and travel on the Naked Hippies Roadtrip. Our new dream is to replace our Big Foot pickup camper with a Vanabode.

We’ve done the research, we know exactly what we want, the model, the features, the set up. There are pictures of the Vanabode on our vision board. We have already done the first major downsize necessary. We notice the white Chevy vans that we pass on the road with exclamations of “VANABODE!”

What is the path of least resistance to manifest our Vanabode?

And yet, here we are still waiting.

You, too?

Are you in that place of “it isn’t here yet” – “why is this taking so long” – “what else do I have to do?”

What is the path of least resistance to manifest any desire?

It isn’t in the “doing.”  It is in the BEING.

It isn’t in trying to figure out how, or when, or where it will happen.

The path of least resistance is taking your focus off the manifestation, the end result, the destination; and instead, focusing on your state of being, your feelings.

As long as you keep your focus on what “isn’t here yet,” you are sending out negative vibrations of lack, of doubt. Desires are manifested when your energy is vibrating at higher levels of joy and happiness and appreciation.

But, it’s so hard, isn’t it?  We’ve been imprinted with the instant gratification ideas of our society. It transfers easily to the manifestation process.  It’s hard to be patient, and especially difficult to be happy while you wait.

This message from Esther Hicks explains exactly how we are pinching ourselves off from the BEING  on the path of least resistance.

Esther Hicks reminds me to remember how we manifested our Big Foot camper. How the journey towards its manifestation was one that we could never have imagined.

I’m reminded to take my eyes off the “what isn’t here yet” and find delight and joy romping around on this journey to manifesting our Vanabode.

Will you join me in the fun? Will you practice (and it takes a lot of practice) to be happy now, BEFORE your dream becomes your reality? To be aware and appreciative of paths that are lighting up as you continue to wait?

The lighted path appears when you take the path of least resistance.

When you have the certainty, the belief that all you desire is coming to you, when you stop being fixated on what your physical eyes reveal “what isn’t here,” you are on the path to least resistance. Your desire is making its way to you in ways you could never imagine or expect.

Wait … wait … wait.

But, not by throwing a temper tantrum like a two-year-old or raising your fist to the Universe as you cry out “Why is this taking so damn long?”

Wait with appreciation. Wait with delight. Wait with joyous patience and expectancy. Wait with the art of allowing people, places, events and rendevous!

[Tweet “The waiting IS the journey.”]
There is much to see and discover and learn and enjoy along the way.

The path of least resistance is being present now. Not looking ahead in fear, or looking back with guilt or regret.

As you travel on this amazing journey, there is always more to learn about who you are and the amazing power of deliberate creation you have within you.

Come, you’re invited, to join our study of “Ask and It Is Given” by Esther and Jerry Hicks. We read and discuss the book daily, Monday – Friday at 10 am Eastern.  Dial in for the live call: 712-775-7085 pin 150703#

Or catch the replays here.

Here’s to your journey (and ours)!

The Naked Hippies’ Pickup Gets Naked … one step closer to our Vanabode!

Ready to see the Naked Hippies’ pickup get naked?

It’s about time, don’t you think?  Ha ha!

We have lived and traveled in this Big Foot camper since 2010 … and have never taken the camper off our Dodge Ram pickup.

pickup-gets-naked-naked-hippies-roadtrip
We haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on our list!

Now, as we prepare for the switch from a pick up camper to the Vanabode stealth camping lifestyle, our truck had to get naked.

We had to remove the camper so we can sell the truck separately from the camper and still have a place to live while we modify and set up the Vanabode.

I have to admit, I was pretty nervous about doing this.  After all, it’s our HOME and the camper has been resting on the truck for over five years.  All kinds of what ifs started spewing from my mouth.

  • What if the support legs won’t hold the camper up?
  • What if we can’t get the camper back on the truck if we need to?
  • What if the camper tips forward because we sleep and get a bit rowdy on the front end where there is no support?

If this had been a reality show, you would have watched me stand close by with furrowed brow and an anxious look.

You would have seen Bruce read the instructions for removing the camper.  (By the way, we were extremely grateful to find these instructions in the truck’s glove compartment!  Can you say lifesaver?)

And, you would have seen Ron, our dear friend, pull out the necessary tools and gadgets from his magic storehouse and just tackle the job without worrying about the what ifs still pouring from my mouth!

Uh oh!  The hydraulics aren’t working.

“I knew it!” Trisha mutters under her breath.

A quick call to  another dear friend in Eureka Springs, who is the official Naked Hippies mechanic provided the solution … get some oil and a plastic squeeze bottle to add the oil to the hydraulic canisters.

That’s all it took!

Bruce and Ron cranked the hydraulics to lift the camper off the truck.

And now … Our Naked Hippies’ pickup gets naked!

I swear it kinda shimmied and shook when we “undressed” it!

We piled into the cab of the truck and took off for Home Depot to get concrete blocks to sit the camper on.

At first, Bruce was a little disoriented driving the truck without the camper on its back and without all that weight!   He had to get used to have a 360 view of all traffic again!

It was totally weird to not have Big Foot with us.

Now we’re wondering what kind of mileage the truck will get. It’s been pretty awesome in spite of the weight.  Bruce was getting nearly 20 mpg WITH Big Foot!

Lowering the camper onto the concrete blocks was a breeze. A successful job!

(AND, there IS support up front under the bed, too!)  WHEW!

Who wants to buy a Naked VINTAGE 1989 Dodge Ram pickup 350 with a Cummins Turbo Diesel?   This truck will run forever, or so we’ve been told by many mechanics.

Stay tuned … more adventures ahead!

Boondocking Tips – Whether You are Vanabode Camping or Not

Boondocking:  Camping without hooking up to amenities such as water and electricity.

Oh, there’s all kinds of terms for this kind of camping – dry camping, independent camping, dispersed camping.

Without getting into semantics, I’m just going to share these boondocking tips without concern about being concerned about the proper term.

Basically, boondocking can be thought of as primitive tent camping in your RV.

You won’t have electrical or water hookups. You sure as heck won’t find a sewer hookup.

So, a little preparation is necessary such as making sure you have enough water on board and as in our case, an inverter to charge our laptops so we can keep on working online to build our business.

There are two main reasons people choose boondocking … either to get out in nature or to save money on camping … or both.   For us, it’s both.

We’ve been on the road since 2013 and have camped in state parks, national forests, and RV parks from the Gulf Coast to the Pacific Coast, throughout the Midwest, the Southwest and the Northwest.

We’ve also had great times boondocking at Walmart, truck stops, casinos and rest stops.

The following boondocking tips will help you find free sites and give you some pointers on boondocking on public lots.

Be sure to read all the way to the end to learn about boondocking at airports!

WALMART, TRUCK STOP, REST AREAS and CASINO BOONDOCKING TIPS:

  1. There’s a Walmart in nearly every town, which is fantastic for boondocking. But, not all Walmarts allow overnight camping. Check with management to get permission to stay overnight on their lot. Many cities have ordinances against overnight parking.  If you are not sure overnight parking is allowed, go inside and ask.  You’ll sleep much better knowing.
  2. DO NOT pull out your awnings, camp chairs and dog cages when you park overnight at Walmart or ANY truck stop, rest stop or Casino.   C’mon people … it’s a privilege to be able to park for free.  Don’t abuse it.
  3. Park far away from the main entrance.  It’s the common sense, courteous thing to do.
  4. Best truck stop for boondocking – hands down – is Flying J.  The great bonus is that most Flying J Truck Stops have a Denny’s!
  5. You’ll see notices of “no camping” at many rest stops.  That means no setting up camp as mentioned above – no awnings, no camp chairs pulled out, no grilling.
  6. Casinos offer free camping – some even have specified areas for your RV.

Two apps that I rely on frequently are:boondocking-tips-naked-hippies-roadtrip

The US Rest Stop App that lists all rest stops in the US by state and highway.

Flying J

The Pilot/Flying J App that tells me the nearest location of our fav truck stop!

Park your RV at My House!

Here’s another site that is a fantastic idea … RVers who say “come park your RV at my house!”  You’ll have to pay a membership fee in order to participate in this exchange. Click here: boondockerswelcome.com/

Now, as promised …

AIRPORT CAMPING (our secret tip!)

We attend many events for our business and they are always held in big cities where it’s tough to find a parking space for our camper. Plus, we like sleeping in our own bed vs. paying $100/night to sleep inside a motel room.  So, we just park at the airport.

This has worked tremendously well for us in a couple of times in Los Angeles and recently in Chicago.  We park our camper, ride shuttles and trains to get from the economy lot to the airport to the hotel, attend the event each day and then ride the shuttles and trains to get back to our camper to sleep.

All transportation is free.  The parking is cheap, usually $10-12/night.  You can’t beat the price and you can’t beat the comfort of your own bed.

We’ve decided to do this from now on for any city we decide to visit, whether it’s business that takes us there or pleasure.  Instead of fighting traffic and stressing over parking, we’ll camp at the airport, ride the free transportation to the city and enjoy sightseeing.  At the end of the day, we’ll head back to the airport for sleep and get ready to do it all over again the next day.

We absolutely love boondocking!  Most of what we learned came from the Vanabode Book … How to Live and Travel on $20 a Day.

A week ago, we sat at a crossroads in Chicago. Our plan was to head to Maine, then travel down the East Coast to enjoy the spectacular fall colors. Maine to Key West … that was the plan. We had two voices vying to get their way. One voice said, "YES ... GO GO GO! You've always wanted to see the fall colors.  Just DO IT!" The other voice said, "Ummmmmm, maybe you should wait." via GIPHY Oh, how we WANTED to make this a magical experience.  I so WANTED to claim my spot on Cadillac Mountain in Maine to be the first to see the sunrise in the U.S.   We so wanted to visit states that neither of us had been to before.  I so WANTED to visit Walden Pond, Niagara Falls, and all the quaint little coastal towns. My mouth was watering for lobster rolls.  We planned to make it to Key West for Fantasy Fest at the end of October. But … something nudged us in the other direction. Call it intuition, call it divine guidance … call it whatever you want; but we turned the truck to the south instead of northeast.   Now we know why.  The East Coast is being deluged with rain right now because of Hurricane Joachim. Flooding, high winds, massive rain, beach erosion … not good for roadtrips. We would have been smack dab in the middle of this mess if we had not turned around. Isn’t it a lovely thing when you get to see the reason WHY you were nudged in a difference direction? It doesn’t always happen this way so quickly or clearly.  (But it’s awesome when it does!) The Naked Hippies East Coast trip has been postponed until further notice.  Actually, until next fall! We’re grateful that we turned around. Grateful that we didn’t let our stubborn egos drive us to make that trip no matter what.  (I mean, we SAID we were going … are you going to do what you say, Trisha?)   Monkey chatter, all monkey chatter to create self-doubt. Plus, we’re excited to see what lies ahead for us in the Southwest this winter. Arizona, here we come! Have you ever felt that nudge and changed your direction?

At a Crossroads – Decision Making Time for the Naked Hippies

CROSSROADS:  a point at which a crucial decision must be made that will have far-reaching consequences.

A week ago, we sat at a crossroads in Chicago.

Our plan was to head to Maine, then travel down the East Coast to enjoy the spectacular fall colors.

Maine to Key West … that was the plan.

Call it intuition, call it divine guidance … call it whatever you want; but we turned the truck to the south instead of northeast.

Now we know why.

The East Coast is being deluged with rain right now because of Hurricane Joachim.

Flooding, high winds, massive rain, beach erosion – at a historic level is definitely not good for roadtrips.

We would have been smack dab in the middle of this mess if we had not turned around.

Isn’t it a lovely thing when you get to see the reason WHY you were nudged in a difference direction?
