How To Make Your Friends Think You’re Smarter Than Einstein…

Smarter than Einstein??

Of course!  Let’s say you’re trying to understand quantum physics…

Really, it’s easy to sound like an incredible genius since even quantum physicists don’t really understand everything about quantum physics.

I found this over at What Culture.  Check out the excerpt below, and read the full article here.

7. “If You Think You’ve Understood Quantum Physics, You Haven’t Properly Understood It”

Niels Bohr, one of the biggest names in quantum physics, once said that “If quantum mechanics hasn’t profoundly shocked you, you haven’t understood it yet.”

Aside from being a great get-out-of-jail-free-card escape route if you end up talking yourself into a corner about quantum mechanics, it is also very true.

“The world of quantum mechanics is so complex, so difficult and just so plain weird that the greatest scientific minds of the age have yet to properly understand it. Whilst it’s very tempting think that, because you have understood the sideways explanations in a BBC documentary, you understand how quantum mechanics work, it’s sadly not the case.”

1. “Actually, I Think Einstein Was Wrong”

Sounding Smart 101 teaches us that, in order to sound clever, you need to make someone else sound stupid. If the person you’re disagreeing with is Einstein then you must be literally the smartest person in the universe, right?

The thing is, Einstein had a massive problem with the idea of entanglement, because according to His Royal Clever Clogs and his famous Theory of General Relativity, nothing in the universe can travel faster than the speed of light, not even information. So he would rather scathingly refer to it as “spooky action at a distance”.

As you can see, it won’t take much too grasp the basics,  and just having some of the basics will help you convince your friends that you are smarter than Einstein!
